Hebbronville is the county seat of Jim Hogg County which was named after James Stephen Hogg, the Governor of Texas. It is located at the junction of State highways 16, 285, and 359, at the northern edge of the county. Hebbronville was established in 1883 when the Texas-Mexican Railway Company built through that area and at one time, was the largest cattle shipping point in the nation. Hebbronville calls itself "The Vaquero Capital of Texas and the USA” and it hosts an annual Vaquero Festival. The festival is held on the first weekend in November and is complete with goat roping, raanch rodeo, and a cook-off.
