Encinal is a very small town in southern Texas with a population under 1,000. Its name comes from a Spanish word meaning holly oak grove. The town was originally established with the intention to serve as county seat for Encinal County. This county only existed from 1856 to 1899 and was never properly organized. Upon its dissolution, Encinal was absorbed into Webb County and later becamse part of La Salle County , which remains the case today. Living in the town offers a mixture of a suburban-rural feel with affordable housing and low crime rates, making it a great choice for families. The town is now home to many businesses, with several shops along its main street closing down in recent years.
